Thalanyji Recognised for Work in the Community

Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation (Thalanyji) has been nominated for two prestigious Awards acknowledging their work in the community.

Thalanyji was honoured to be Awarded the Aboriginal Business Award from the Onslow Chamber of Commerce and Industry earlier in the year which made the organisation eligible for the 2018 Pilbara Community Service Excellence People’s Choice Award.

The inaugural Pilbara Community Service Excellence Awards are an opportunity for the communities in the Pilbara to recognise the work delivered by several exceptional organisations. With the calibre of nominees on the list it will be tough competition for Thalanyji.

Thalanyji has also been nominated for a Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Volunteer Employer Recognition Award (VERA). Thalanyji was nominated by Onslow Volunteer Fire and Emergency Services (VFES) with the approval of District Officer Paul Leiper.

Volunteers are encouraged by DFES to nominate their employers for the VERA Awards and following assessment will be awarded in owe of three categories; Gold, Silver or Bronze.

Quotes attributed to Matthew Slack, Thalanyji CEO

‘It is always a real honour to be nominated but it is even more special when it comes direct from our community.’

‘The Pilbara People’s Choice Award will be close, looking at the list of nominees we are privileged to be up there with them so winning would be sensational.’

‘Our biggest issue now is that both Award Ceremonies are on the same evening and deciding which staff attend each event.’

‘The safety of our community is paramount, and I am grateful to my employees based in Onslow for putting their hand up to volunteer to the local fire station.’
