Keeping Place and Community Centre
The hostel on McRae place has been a significant place for the Thalanyji people for a number of generations, and we are currently working on reimagining it into a community centre and respite care facility. Keep an eye out for updates – floor plans coming soon!
Partially funded by a Chevron community grant, our new Keeping Place has been in the works for some time and has just landed in Onslow. As a Keeping Place it will be a safe haven of Thalanyji culture, used to store and display historical Thalanyji artefacts, ensuring the preservation and continuation of our culture and history. In addition to this it will serve as an office for Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation staff visiting Onslow, and will soon be home to at least one BTAC staff member.
